The first Tacoma golfers - mature in age - considered golf to be an activity designed for winter weekends and holidays. Times have changed. Tacoma Country & Golf Club now provides year-round recreation for all members of the family.
Tacoma Country & Golf Club hosted the Washington State Open in 1932 and again in 1997. The club was the site of the prestigious 1961 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1984 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur and the 1994 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur championships. We will host the 2007 U.S.G.A. Junior Girl's Championship. The golf professionals at Tacoma Country & Golf Club enjoy unmatched success at the Washington State Open. The late Chuck Congdon, head pro at TC&GC for 30 years, is the only five-time winner of the event. Former club pro Al Mengert is the only "three-peat" winner of the Washington State Open. James Barnes was head pro in 1906. He won the PGA twice in 1916 and 1919; the U.S. Open in 1921 and the British Open in 1925. The success of Tacoma Country & Golf Club professionals continues.
The junior program at the club offers the children and grandchildren of members a fantastic summer of fun. The program provides tennis and golf instruction as well as an assortment of organized games. Supervised swimming, crafts and an occasional overnight are included in the summer fun. All programs are geared toward friendly competition and good sportsmanship. The program begins in June and ends the third week in August.
Picture yourself and your family - putting on the golf course, sunning and swimming at the beautiful American Lake beach, serving on the tennis court, savoring a snack, signing up for lessons.
The fresh air and exercise are pleasures to be enjoyed all year - by all members of the family. The club is the place you want to be for the fun and fitness activities you deserve.
For four generations the club has been a kind of sanctuary where the family has known warm hospitality and has shared pleasant activities.
Grandparents, parents, grown children and now the little ones - all have known the joy of soft summer breezes by the lake, the traditions of good food and good friendship and the pleasures of fine recreation.
All traditions must have a beginning. Isn't it time for the club to become your family's tradition?
